HVAC ENGINEERING DESIGN WORK

At Matrix, our design engineers work directly with clients to design new or replacement heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems specific to customer needs and building specifications. Our engineers focus on solving problems related to air quality issues, environmental issues, and/or energy efficiency. HVAC design engineers work on residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Their tasks include completing HVAC related drawings, preparing project estimates, and overseeing the installation of projects from sales through completion.

BUILDING HEAT LOAD CALCULATIONS

At Matrix, our design engineers are highly specialized in Heat Load calculations. Whether you are considering replacing an existing system or want to assess your current systems efficiency, it is imperative that you hire a qualified HVAC professional to ensure that all rooms are surveyed, and that all the heat sources are identified. Based on the Heat Load calculated, the HVAC designer will recommend the type of air conditioning system suitable for the application and its required capacity. Our engineers help prevent the building owner from acquiring an oversized system with unnecessary upfront and long-term costs, or an undersized system that delivers insufficient cooling and/or heating.

TOTAL BUILDING COMMISSIONING

Total Building Commissioning is a professional practice conducted by our engineers at Matrix to ensure buildings and projects are delivered in accordance to the specifications and design drawings assigned to a project. Buildings that are properly commissioned typically have fewer change orders, tend to be more energy efficient, and have lower operational and maintenance cost. Commissioning your building provides quality control of your project and ensures an efficient, safe, and healthy space is delivered once the project is completed.

TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING

Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) for commercial and industrial HVAC systems provides an independent assessment and calibration of a newly installed or existing HVAC system. At Matrix, our engineers follow NEBB guidelines and stay up to date on industry standards, procedures, and specifications for work in various disciplines. Our TAB specialists perform air and hydronic measurements on HVAC systems and adjust air and water flowrates as required to achieve optimum performance of the building HVAC equipment.

ENERGY AUDITS / BLOWER DOOR TESTING / THERMAL IMAGING

Having an energy audit is a valuable energy-efficiency assessment tool to identify devices, usage habits, and systems in your building where energy conservation and home-efficiency upgrades could reduce energy costs. Some of the primary equipment employed by our engineers for an energy audit includes a moisture meter to read moisture levels in building materials, an infrared camera to detect heat gain/loss, and a blower door test to pinpoint air leaks which affect moisture and heat gain/loss issues, which is the most comprehensive air-leak detection method available.

HVAC PERFORMANCE TESTING

Our engineers perform on-site HVAC performance testing, which properly measures the airflow and current enthalpy of a system to determine if the system is functioning at full capacity. Any building or facility is at the mercy of a reliable mechanical system with the ability to provide efficient and reliable control of temperature and humidity. Our engineers provide unbiased assessments of your HVAC system and provide recommendations and solutions to improve and/or replace the system as required by the current or long-term needs of the facility.

NFPA 496 CODE CONFORMANCE TESTING

NFPA Code 496 is a set of safety and compliance standards established to mitigate and reduce the potential risk of unexpected fires, explosions, and other disasters from occurring. The tests performed include a review of the enclosures of the air conditioning and heating systems to determine if pressurization and purging is required, whether proper ventilation has been installed, the minimum air velocity requirements are met when doors are open, along with many other tests for the protection of electrical equipment.
